Updated Mailbaby wordpress plugin brings option DKIM signing

Updates to the Mailbaby Plguin

We’ve rolled out an exciting update to the MailBaby SMTP plugin. If you are using the plugin, you now have the ability to sign your emails with dkim over the API right in wordpress.

The biggest feature in this release is the requested ability to sign your outgoing emails with a DKIM key (DomainKeys Identified Mail) with in wordpress for those using the API but not using a mail server that presigns emails with DKIM.

How It Works:

  • Default disabled The DKIM signing feature is disabled by default. If you prefer to keep things simple, you don’t have to change anything.
  • Easy Activation: If you’re ready to boost your email trust, you can easily enable it with a single checkbox in the plugin settings.
  • Need a Key? If you haven’t set up a key yet, the plugin will provide a helpful link right there to get one generated.

A Quick Heads-Up on Setup: To make DKIM work its magic, you’ll need to do two things outside of WordPress:

  1. You must add the public key as a TXT record in your domain’s DNS settings (this is done through your registrar or DNS provider).
  2. You must store the private key inside the MailBaby plugin settings.

These steps allow our plugin to generate the unique signature that authenticates your email!

The Technical Scoop

For our technical users, this update brings a change to how the plugin talks to our API. We are now using the rawSend endpoint. This is what allows the plugin to pass the custom DKIM-Signature header generated right inside your WordPress environment.

Feature requests are always considered

The MailBaby team will always consider a feature request from our users. Depending on the scope it may be something that we add to the roadmap or potentially get rolling right away.

Keeping DKIM signing disabled by default is a sensible choice, especially since activation also requires publishing the public key as a DNS TXT record and storing the private key in WordPress. Using the rawSend endpoint to pass a locally generated DKIM-Signature header also makes the technical purpose of the update clear. Reliable authentication could be particularly useful for services like Rate My Photo Online when sending photo analysis results or account notifications.
