Mailbaby is an SMTP smart host designed to automatically block outgoing spam and detect compromised accounts. However, false positives can occur. If this happens, submitting a “not spam” report will trigger a manual review of the affected email stream. We will reach out to the account owner for more information if necessary.
Significant efforts have been made to reduce false positives. As Mailbaby is reputation-based, we isolate user reputation by account and email address using an x-mb-id
identifier. This system also factors in additional elements such as domains and authentication IPs.
Further improvements have been implemented in reputation scoring. Users who exhibit consistent emailing patterns, maintain low average spam scores, and experience minimal bounce rates (including both hard and soft bounces) see enhanced email delivery. Other considerations, such as properly aligned emails, also contribute to a better reputation score.
Contact forms remain a common source of spam, similar to how open relays were exploited in the past when there is no protective mechanism. To address this, Mailbaby has created hundreds of trap contact and sign-up forms to identify spam sources. These traps also help pinpoint accounts that may be targeted by spam, such as mailbombs. The results of these traps are weighted more heavily to ensure valid emails from unprotected forms are still delivered, while blocking spam.
Despite these protections, bot defenses such as Turnstile or CAPTCHA remain the most effective methods for preventing automated spam submissions.
Please continue to report false positives using the not spam option to help further improve detection. If you notice spam has come through, our team would appreciate a heads up – please contact support with the email id.
