What You Need First
- Administrator access to your Plesk Obsidian control panel.
- Your MailBaby credentials (a username starting with ‘mb’ followed by a number, plus your password).
- Your domain’s DNS should already have the standard MailBaby SPF record (
include:_spf-c.mailbaby.net).
Step-by-Step Configuration
Follow these steps to get MailBaby running as your smarthost in Plesk for Linux:
- Log into your control panel: Sign in to Plesk using your administrator account.
- Open your mail settings: Look at the left-hand menu and click on Tools & Settings. Under the Mail column, click on Mail Server Settings.
- Enable the smarthost feature: Scroll down the page until you see the outbound routing options. Check the box that says Send outgoing mail through the specified smarthost.
- Enter the server details:
- IP address or host name: Type
relay.mailbaby.net - Port: Enter
25(if your setup blocks 25, you can usually use587).
- IP address or host name: Type
- Set up authentication: MailBaby requires you to log in before it accepts your outbound mail.
- Check the box for Requires SMTP authentication.
- Username: Type in your MailBaby username (for example, mb12345).
- Password: Paste in your MailBaby password.
- Save your work: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click OK or Apply.
Testing Your Setup
As soon as you save these settings, your Plesk server will begin routing all outgoing mail through MailBaby. The best way to verify everything is working is to send a test email from one of the domains hosted on your server to an outside address, like a personal Gmail account. If the email arrives in the inbox without bouncing back, your smarthost is fully active.
